Based in Yamagata, Japan—one of the nation's leading fruit-producing regions—Tobisho Co., Ltd. (株式会社飛庄) has hand-crafted premium pruning tools for generations. The core philosophy of the 4th-generation blacksmith, Daiki Tobitsuka, is "Shitsujitsu-Goken" (Robust & Efficient)—ensuring that beyond absolute sharpness, every tool provides ultimate reliability for heavy daily labor. This lineage of innovation continues today; the 3rd-generation, Yasuhito Tobitsuka, significantly enhanced the tools' structural balance, while the forge's unique heat treatment strictly prevents decarburization to maximize carbon edge hardness. Today, their shears are universally trusted by Niwashi (traditional Japanese gardeners), professional gardeners and landscapers, international arborists, fruit growers, vineyard owners, bonsai masters, and passionate hobbyists worldwide.
Read Tobisho Lineup Guide & Our Story
Our collection features Tobisho’s finest lineups, starting with the flagship SR-1 designed by the 3rd generation. The SR-1 is highly regarded for its excellent balance and exceptional cost-performance; while it looks remarkably compact and is easy to handle, it delivers a surprisingly powerful cut when pruning. If you seek pure, heavy-duty power exactly as the tool looks, the traditional A-type is the definitive choice. For a true "extension of your hand," we highly recommend the B-type pruners—a personal favorite of Tetsufuku’s manager and many gardeners. The key to the B-type is its honest, intuitive handling; the blade tip aligns perfectly with your extended hand, making it incredibly easy to insert smoothly into tight, dense branches—a natural balance achieved by its compact blade size and shallow angle. The same effortless feeling can be found in their pruning/bud snips. If you suffer from tenosynovitis (hand/wrist strain), the Asuka and Tobisho-type shears are ideal; they maintain a high, flawless average across all performance benchmarks, making them exceptionally gentle on your hands. From single-handed Karikomi shears to these diverse models, each tool serves a distinct purpose.
Tetsufuku’s relationship with Tobisho began in 2010. Our manager, Hiroshi Urata, interviewed Yasuhito-san and Daiki-san three times for the Japanese garden magazine "NIWA" and visited their forge repeatedly through various cultural projects. Driven by a desire to share these exceptional tools with the world, Urata asked for a partnership, and a deep trust was forged. Today, Tetsufuku is proud to be one of only two officially authorized export distributors for Tobisho worldwide. Because we maintain an open dialogue with the forge and can consult them on any technical matter, we welcome you to contact us directly if you ever need guidance in choosing the perfect shears.
Please Note (Special Instructions):
This shear is made of High-Carbon Alloy Steel (Not Stainless Steel), which is extremely sharp but prone to rust if not maintained.
Due to limited artisanal production, some items may experience temporary shortages. In particular, left-handed models require long manufacturing cycles and are currently highly difficult to stock. Additionally, for long tools like Karikomi shears shipped to the US and UK via DHL, shipping rates are calculated by volumetric weight rather than actual weight, which may increase costs. If you would like an exact shipping quote before checkout, please feel free to contact us—we are always here to help.
