Two Blade Lineages, Matched to the Task

Once you move beyond standard Bypass Pruners / Secateurs (Sentei), Japanese horticultural tools branch into two blade lineages, each suited to a different kind of cut.

Single-bevel tools deliver shearing force for tougher material. Pruning & Bud Shears use a symmetric blade for straight, controlled access into dense growth, while Single Bevel Bud Shears use an asymmetric blade built for cutting force on woody shoots. Neither is a lighter or heavier version of the other; the choice depends on the shape of the work in front of you. For root and sucker work specifically, our Root Pruning Shears are built for cutting suckers (hikobae) and thin roots close to the base of a plant.

Double-bevel tools deliver clean, bruise-free cuts for the most sensitive work, from broad shearing with Topiary Shears and Pine Needle Shears, down to fruit thinning and bonsai maintenance with Double Bevel Bud Shears.

Whether you are a professional landscaper, an orchard farmer, a vineyard caretaker, or a bonsai practitioner, this collection covers each stage of the cut, from rough shaping to the finest pinch.
