[Kondo] Carbide-Tipped Koyasuke (Japanese Pitching Tools) are heavy-duty, professional-grade implements engineered for rapid bulk material removal, aggressive edge trimming, and on-site stone fitting. Utilizing a wooden handle that maximizes centrifugal force, the Koyasuke operates as the most frequently used, indispensable "primary weapon" in Dry Stone Walling (DSW) to quickly snap off unwanted stone corners. It is equally vital for reshaping and seat-adjusting prominent rock features in Japanese Gardens, and executing powerful rock-facing operations in architectural masonry.
Unlike standard handheld steel chisels, the Koyasuke features a traditional wooden handle that naturally dampens harsh, high-frequency impact vibrations, completely preventing hand numbness during extended field shifts. The exceptionally thick, robust tungsten carbide block is fused to the forged steel head via specialized brass brazing, combining intense cutting-edge hardness with structural shock mitigation.
⚠️ WARNING: To safeguard the thick brass layer and prevent the carbide from chipping under heavy hammer blows, proper pitching technique is mandatory. The tool must be struck squarely; never apply lateral prying or twisting leverage against the stone while striking. Additionally, always lift the blade slightly away from the stone face between consecutive strikes to relieve cumulative stress on the brazed joint.
Handcrafted using centuries-old traditional forging and shaping techniques by skilled artisans in Okazaki, Japan, these tools offer unmatched balance, durability, and splitting efficiency. Explore our highly selected size lineup below to find the perfect practical core for your field operations.
