Item Description

This handcrafted [Kondo] Carbide-Tipped Koyasuke (Japanese Pitching Tool) is expertly engineered for rapid bulk material removal, aggressive edge trimming, and on-site stone fitting. Positioned as the highly versatile standard model with a wider 8x40mm blade, it offers an exceptional balance of splitting efficiency and fluid control for everyday stonemasonry tasks. It serves as the primary weapon in Dry Stone Walling (DSW) to quickly shear off large unwanted rock corners, reshape and seat-adjust foundational elements in Japanese Gardens, and drive consistent rock-facing in structural masonry.

Utilizing a traditional wooden handle that naturally dampens harsh, high-frequency impact vibrations, the Koyasuke completely prevents hand numbness during extended field shifts. The rugged tungsten carbide block is fused to the forged steel head via precision brass brazing, combining intense cutting-edge hardness with reliable structural shock mitigation. ⚠️ WARNING: To safeguard the brass layer and prevent the carbide from chipping under heavy hammer blows, proper pitching technique is mandatory. The tool must be struck squarely; never apply lateral prying or twisting leverage against the stone while striking. Additionally, always lift the blade slightly away from the stone face between consecutive strikes to relieve cumulative stress on the brazed joint.
