Item Description
Masterfully forged by [Kondo], this 25-bit Bishan is a single-faced stone finishing hammer engineered to create a beautiful, uniform surface texture while gently smoothing out remaining stone high spots. While the domestic Japanese market typically supplies these heads separate from handles, Tetsufuku stands out by offering this tool pre-installed with a rigid Japanese oak (Kashi) handle for immediate, balanced operational control. The 25-bit (5x5 grid) layout features tightly packed tungsten carbide teeth, allowing for a cleaner and more controlled finishing process compared to wide-spaced roughing models. It is highly suitable for smoothing joint interfaces in Dry Stone Walling (DSW), adding an elegant non-slip texture to stepping stones and terrace pathways for Niwashi (Japanese gardeners), and finishing structural architectural components. This 25-bit specification strikes an exceptional balance between the ultra-fine surfaces required in historic temple restoration and the expressive, highly textured rustic aesthetics sought after in contemporary landscape architecture.
⚠️ WARNING: This tool must be operated strictly by swinging the carbide face directly against stone using your own arm. Because the flat reverse side of the head is composed of unhardened steel, it is not built to strike rock, nor is it treated to be struck by a Setto hammer. Doing so will cause severe deformation of the tool. Always deliver flat blows to protect the brazed carbide tips from asymmetric shearing stress.
There are an assortment of tools from 16 bits(2*2) to 64 bits(8*8), and this is a product of 25 bits(5*5). The fewer bits, the coarser finish, and the more bits, the finer finish.

The notes on use about Bishan, coarse finish hammer (25 Carbide bits) [KONDO]
Hammer a stone softly, rhythmically and vertically by all means. The properties of steel and carbide is superior in wear resistance and it is the harder, the more fragile. Conversely, soft steel and carbide are superior in durability and shock resistance. This product has been setting hard condition, if you wield or hit strongly, there is a possibility that brass brazing will break. In addition, it is a main factor of breaking to hammer a stone diagonally. Please hammer a stone vertically by all means. The Japanese craftsmen using our product habitually know this point well enough, but we would like overseas users to keep it in mind.
