Item Description
This handcrafted [Kondo] square-point chisel (Kadokiri-Nomi) is engineered for finishing and leveling stone surfaces after initial heavy roughing. Featuring the largest body mass and a substantial 10x10mm square carbide profile in this series, it provides stable driving force for cleanly shearing off larger remaining high spots—highly essential for establishing perfectly tight stone-to-stone contact joints in Dry Stone Walling (DSW), flattening interlocking boulder faces in Japanese Gardens, and prepping large structural surfaces in architectural masonry.
The full brass brazing yields effective vibration damping to protect your hand during repetitive heavy hammer strikes. ⚠️ WARNING: This type is intended strictly for experienced stonecutters. To protect the thick brass layer from premature fracturing, you must lift the chisel slightly between each strike; continuous dragging along the stone face or exposure to side-striking lateral impacts must be strictly avoided.
Please adjust an angle in Aoto of the GC whetstone 120H according to the stone to be used before beginning to use. When using it for soft stones, such as the Shirakawa stone and an Oya stone , it is about 60 degrees. In the case of granite, it is common to adjust to an obtuse angle rather than 55 degrees.
If you are a professional, the optimal SETTO for Angle picking Chisel of this size (Diameter=28mm Carbide bits=9mm*8mm) is a 1.0 to 1.3 kg thing. However, when there is little experience, please use SETTO lighter than this.
